I'll wager not a single review for Charles's book came from someone who was profoundly upset over its Edwardian attitudes.K. Z. I ...I was thinking about this some more overnight. I do understand that some people are genuinely upset by some things. But they should then take steps to avoid the things which upset them. If you know that you are upset by the reality of certain aspects of life in the past, then don't read historical novels set during the relevant time period. If you choose to do so, then don't complain when the books are accurate. There are enough other books to read.Helenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01553503435833467369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18677034.post-42420138992629152362014-12-08T23:10:46.039-06:002014-12-08T23:10:46.039-06:00I suspect most readers feel the same way, Susan. I do not like the sugar-coating of the past that happens in a lot of romance. Isn't there the saying, "Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." We can safely presume they're all adults and capable of dealing with whatever upsets them in the books they read. I doubt major trauma is ever involved. Sheesh.K. Z. And on the other point, authors can't be, nor should it be suggested they be, responsible for everyone's triggers.
