Mad City Coup

The Chazen Art Center in Wisconsin's capital city (oh, and what a seething cesspool of progressivism it is -- heh!) recently purchased this sculpture. I'm afraid I couldn't copy the pic. You'll have to look at the fourth image in the slideshow to get the full hurray-for-tolerance impact of the work:

Not bad for a city of approximately 224,000 people, huh? Madison is so liberal, I'm surprised the Fundies haven't bombed it off the map. (Actually, the Chazen Museum is on the University of Wisconsin campus, which is even more liberal than the city itself.)

Now back to Fugly, which I'm trying desperately to finish by the end of the week.

I just got done ranting to my husband about how I hate to read/hear the news anymore because it just seems the world's going to hell in a handbasket and how can people ignore the sanctity of life in the name of money or religion and before you know it we'll be living in the world of Blade Runner and where's the love... (to which he replied "Honey, I'd love to have this conversation with you but not while I'm falling asleep.")

So then I check good ol' Google reader and here you are! And there they are! I think the sculpture is pretty amazing in its execution. Still, I wish they'd been horses. I must have another phobia I didn't know about.

Go, MadTown! That is excellent.

I'm not sure what goat phobia even is, Wren...

Okay, I've been thinking on it. I don't think it's goat phobia. I think maybe I just don't like goats very much. I think it's the hooves.

But sheep, deer, cows, antelope, buffalo, and giraffes (etc) all have cloven hooves, too....

Yeah, it's so wrong... Let's just forget I ever brought it up. I love the goats!

Oh, great, now it's goataphilia? ;)

Why isn't KZ here to monitor this conversation? Let's forget about the damn goats.

I must say, tho', that between this blog and Kris's I am not crying over the sappy part in Sloan Parker's "More".

Sheesh. Can't leave this place for a minute. Didn't you read what I said about getting my manuscript finished?

I've owned goats. They're extremely intelligent animals and make great pets. However, I don't believe their penii resemble those of cut adult men.

Other than that, it's a pretty damned impressive sculpture. And, I believe, done by a woman.

What set you off, Wren? The lunatic fringe Tea Baggers and the lovely sentiments they've been expressing lately?

I had a go-round with my SO earlier about that.

KZ - So is Fugly done? You've been gone long enough!

I think the set-off point was reading about the bricks being hurled through democrats' windows. That was the tipping point after a bunch of other stuff: the Mideast, Mexican drug cartels, USA weapons buyers, that police station in CA being attacked by gang members...Every now and then I hit *overload* and have to let the darkness erupt.

The phallic goats were a blessed relief!

Nope. Fugly isn't finished yet. I could be "gone" into next week. I must, must, must get this thing wrapped up.

I know what you mean about current events. It's gotten to the point I can't stand watching the news. Then my SO goes on a blab about it multiple times a day, and his pontificating makes me even crazier. :-/

Wow, very cool statue. Really well done. I think they are antelope. Is that better Wren? Talk about tangents. LOL

We had Anne Coulter in town. 200 students showed up at the university to protest her speech and she called us all kinds of nasty names. Yeah, like Anne Coulter is the voice of reason we all care about. Whatever. *insert teenage eye roll*

wren boudreau said...

Tam. They. Are. Goats.

Ann Coulter. *shivers* Sorry.

K. Z. Snow said...

Yep, goats.

Adding my shivers.

Don't be sorry Wren. I can't believe we even let her in the country. I thought we had hate laws.

She told the group at McGill, I think, that all Arabs should be banned from flying and they could take their flying carpets. A girl in a hijab stood up and said "I don't have a flying carpet" the reply was "Well then you can take a camel". Holy shit. Anyone else would be arrested I'm sure. Oh well, she's in Calgary now, maybe she'll get caught in a stampede of cattle and they'll do us all a favour.

Kris said...

*ponders* Maybe they are Satanic goats and that's why everyone is pissed.

I was gonna ask who that Anne lady is, but I seriously don't want to know.

Kris, Anne Coulter is an ultraconservative douchenozzle (we have far to many of them in this country) with a penchant for saying incredibly ignorant, offensive things.
